Unless you have a dedicated account, the public IP you will get assigned will very likely have been assigned to another customer before they logged off and you logged in. Even with dedicated IPs, there is a very likely chance that you may be assigned an IP address that was, before you signed up, being used for another customer who went away.
If it is an IP that has been the attention of a scan or attack, every time you will get online with that IP address, and if that scan or attack is by any chance present, you will receive unwarranted traffic. Plus, even if it is not an attack, most, if not all, public IP address space is routinely scanned by programmed bots to find open systems, for research or illegal purposes.I run my own VPN on cloud providers such as DigitalOcean and I face this problem often.
When I create a server on such a cloud provider, my server is assigned a public IP address that isn't pristine - it is very likely used before for any number of previous servers. I am very likely to find my servers with IP addresses that are in several spam and abuse black-lists, and also likely to find all manners of unsolicited traffic coming to my servers the moment I take them online without broadcasting their IP anywhere. Are the connections definitely in Uruguay? Have you done traceroutes to the IP? Or just Googled the IP?Those IP registries can be wildly wrong, but a traceroute can show you nearby hops on the way to the IP, giving you a good general idea of the IPs actual location.It is strange that you're seeing direct traffic on port22 that is possibly not from PureVPN.
I'd definitely contact their support directly and find out what that data is.If you connect to PureVPN using something like the vanilla OpenVPN client, does this problem persist? This will tell you more about whether it has something to do with their client software or if it is related to their network.
They try to connect to my VPN IP-adress. They can not connect to my computer if my VPN is off, because port forward is disabled. I use my own OpenVPN if I need to acces my LAN.Before it was a lot of chinese Ip-adresses trying to connect to SMB. I've read this and also some other NAT firewall explanations from other VPN services (even though there are only a few that offer it) and it didn't make sense until you mentioned that you don't get a local IP addess, but a public one.

I could SSH into the public IP address from my phone (on 3G), the only thing from stopping me logging in was my software firewall installed on my mac refusing the connection. But I verified in the log that I could reach my computer from my phone. So it can't be shared.I chatted with their support about this security flaw and their response was to give me 'NAT Firewall' for free. I activated this 'Firewall' but it doesn't do anything.
